Shoveling

My neighbor (sorry Kali) got stuck in her driveway this morning. It could happen to anyone with all the snow we have piled up around here. I mean, it probably wouldn't happen to me because I love driving in reverse (another story) but I'm just saying. Anyhoo she stopped over to see if I could help her so I made her watch the babe while I donned hat, mits, ridiculously huge boots, and a puffy down jacket. As I was shoveling out her car I decided there is little more gratifying than shoveling snow. It's a great work out. You can see progress immediately. And it provides you with a disillusioned but blissful sense of power. Mike wants to get a snow blower. I would prefer to shovel.

  1. I would argue that there are few things more gratifying than firing up a 10 horsepower engine and propelling snow 35ft into the air while grunting like a bull. It gives me more time to give back rubs to my wife.

  2. I feel gratification in the fact that I have tremendous neighbors who with plow, shovel, rake or snow blower, will get my car unstuck from my driveway. There is also something incredibly empowering (albeit humbling) having a woman neighbor get your car unstuck. No wonder Sara is my hero.

  3. This is ACTUALLY how Sara and I met. We've been putting up a front for a good 8 years now to allow me to save face, but now that I have a 1-year-old, who needs to save face. We met in Helena after she shoveled me out --- I got my Jeep stuck in about 18-inches of snow....I had burned a good ice sheet under all my tires and then here she comes with a snow shovel... I offered to shovel, but she said, "Hell, no. I'm not going to walk over here and just hand you the shovel so you can be all macho. I've got it. Just get back in your nice and warm Jeep (she said with a smile)."
